Fashion designers play a pivotal role in this thriving, constantly evolving and in-demand industry.
As a fashion designer, you will work on the design of clothing and fashion ranges. Depending on the company you work for you may work to your own brief or be given a brief to work towards, with specifications like colours, fabrics and budgets.
In this course, you will complete one tutorial at a time. Each tutorial will be focused on a different area of fashion design and aims to build your terminology, design and industry knowledge.
This course will show you how communicating technical information on design concepts and designing garments are created through a systematic process of research, inspiration and development. We will take you step-by-step through the process of finding inspiration, developing your creative side, creating a portfolio of designs, working to a brief, understanding and evaluating a client, contributing a cohesive collection and understanding your target market.
The course is self-paced and can be completed within 2 years, study in your own time or around work or family commitments. Through the course you will complete practical assessments that will help you develop and apply your skills and knowledge. By completing these practical assessments and activites, we are able to assess you on nationally recognised units of competency and students who successfully complete the course will receive a Statement of Attainment which will allow students direct credit when applying for further study in Fashion Design in the VET sector.

This course is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework and covers the following units of competency from the Diploma of Applied Fashion Design & Merchandising course.
- MSTFD2005: Identify design process for fashion designs
- MSTFD3004: Draw a trade drawing for fashion design
- MSTGN2011: Identify fibres, fabrics and textiles used in the TCF industry
- MSTFD4004: Calculate cost estimates for fashion garments
- MSTFD4003: Assist in preparation of preliminary design concepts
Students who successfully complete the course will be awarded a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the above units of competency.
