Flower markets in the L.A. Flower District are extending their hours to the public for Valentine’s Day starting February 10, 2018. There are three main flower markets: The Southern California Flower Market, The Original Los Angeles Flower Market, and the California Flower Mall. The Southern California Flower Market and The Original Los Angeles Flower Market operate together as the “L.A. Flower Market.” The L.A. flower markets Valentine’s Day hours 2018 will be as follows:

What You Need To Know About Shopping in the L.A. Flower District

  • Expect savings of up to 70% on bulk flowers and 30%-70% on arrangements and bouquets.
  • Most vendors and parking in this area are CASH ONLY. There are ATMs located inside the markets.
  • Most fresh-cut flowers are sold in bulk.

How to Buy the Freshest Flowers

  • Look for straight, firm stems. Discoloration or slime can indicate bacteria. Split or curved stems are signs that the flowers are old.
  • Buy flowers with buds that are just beginning to open. Flowers, especially roses, travel a long journey to reach the markets. Those in full bloom have already reached their peak. The exception to this rule is the Gerbera Daisy, which will look like its in full bloom, and tulips, which should be purchased while the bulb is still fully closed.
  • Avoid flowers with loose pollen or seeds.

Flower Care Tips

If you buy bulk flowers, please note they have not been processed. You will need to give them a little “TLC” to maximize their life span.

  • Remove the flowers from their packaging before placing them in a vase.
  • Remove excess leaves and cut the stems before placing them in water.
  • Keep your flowers in a cool place, away from direct sunlight.
