Alberta College of Art + Design, Alberta
Established in 1973, the Alberta College of Art + Design focuses on creating a studio based experience for students in fine art, new media and design. A Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Degree is offered in the following majors: painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, fiber, glass, jewellery & metalworking, print media and media arts & digital technologies. The BFA can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis. Bachelor of Design (BDes) degrees in Photography and Visual Communication are popular with students looking for careers in the fields of advertising, TV, entertainment, advertising, new media, publication, editorial, fashion, corporate and environmental design industries. Both Photography and Visual Communication degrees are full time 4 year courses and include some evening classes. Admission to both courses is competitive and is based on GPA and portfolio assessment. Graduates who have been awarded a degree from the Department of Visual Arts can apply to complete their Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor of Design Degree as a second credential.

Established in 1910 by Norwegian emigrants, University of Alberta is located in the picturesque city of Camrose, Alberta. It is one of the top 100 teaching and research universities in the world catering to more than 36,000 students a year, with 11,000 faculty and staff members. The Department of Art is divided into 3 main areas: Visual Arts, Music and Drama. The university offers a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. Studio practices include painting, drawing, sculpture (clay, found objects, plaster, paper, wood and foam blocks) and digital imaging. A minor (BA,BSc,BMgt,BMus) in Art is also available. Concordia University was founded in 1974 by the merger of Sir George Williams University (1926) and Loyola College (1896). Today the university offers 300 undergraduate and 200 graduate programs. The Visual Arts Division consists of the following courses: Art Education Visual Arts; History of Art; Cinema; Design and Computation Arts; Creative Arts Therapies and Studio Arts. These courses offer a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree. The Performing Arts Division offers Contemporary Dance, Performance Art, Theatre and Music.

Founded in 1925, the Emily Carr University of Art & Design is one of Canada's top universities specializing in art, design education and research. Undergraduate degrees are 4 years and merge art and design theory with studio practice. The Master of Applied Arts degree is a 2 year professional program preparing students for a career in fields of visual arts, design, media and other creative industries. The Bachelor of Fine Arts offers majors in various types of art, including painting, drawing, ceramics, print media, sculpture, illustration and digital arts; animation; film/video/integrated media; critical and cultural practices and fine arts and creative writing. The George Brown College Centre for Arts and Design offers programs in 3 schools: School of Design, School of Fashion Studies and School of Performing Arts. Nova Scotia College of Art & Design (NSCAD) was founded in 1887. It offers 3 undergraduate degrees: Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Design (BDes) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA). Degrees take 4 years and require 2 semesters of Foundation studies. Majors are available in art history, ceramics, fine art, jewellery design and metalsmithing, photography, textiles, intermedia and interdisciplinary design. There are 5 main areas of undergraduate study: crafts (includes textiles, ceramics & jewellery); design (includes interdisciplinary design, digital design, graphic design & product design); fine art (includes painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture); historical and critical studies (includes history of art, liberal arts, English and other critical analysis courses) and media arts (includes photography, film & intermedia). Ontario College of Art & Design University (OCAD U) offers the widest variety of visual arts and design programs in Canada. Possible qualifications available are: BFA, BDes, MA, MFA and MDes. 12 program majors lead to either a Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) or a Bachelor of Design (BDes). BFA majors offered are: drawing & painting, printmaking, photography, integrated media and criticism & curatorial practice. BDes major choices are: material art & design, advertising, industrial design, graphic design, illustration and environmental design. Graduate degrees on offer are: Masters in Art, Media and Design (MA, MDes, MFA); Advertising (EMDes); Contemporary Art, Design and New Media Art Histories (MA); Digital Futures (MA, MDes, MFA, Graduate Diploma); Strategic Foresight and Innovation (MDes); Design (MDes); and Criticism & Curatorial Practice (MFA). The Graduate Gallery is used by OCAD graduate students for exhibitions and installation art. Yukonsova School of Visual Arts, Yukon
Yukonsova School of Visual Arts, is the most northern school in Canada offering art programs. Students complete their first year at Yukonsova and then finish their Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) or Bachelor of Design degree (BDes) at recommended associate colleges (e.g. Emily Carr Institute, Alberta College, Ontario College and Nova Scotia College of Art & Design). The Foundation Year program consists of 6 studio and 4 liberal studies courses. Studio studies include: Principles and practices of drawing, printmaking and paper (the use of collage, beading, relief printmaking techniques and hand making paper); and Principles and practices of drawing, colour and painting (oils, acrylics, watercolours, colour pencils, scrimshaw and monotype printing). Also sculpture; time based media (production, performance art and conceptual art); art words (how to write professional artist biographies, statements, CVs, project descriptions and proposals) and cultural studies.
